BEFORE SURGERY

DURING SURGERY

• The doctor will cut your stomach vertically, removing and curving part of it to create a narrow sleeve.
• This will allow you to feel full sooner at mealtimes.

You will sleep under general anaesthetic and be monitored closely to avoid any complications. The whole operation will take a few hours.

AFTER THE SURGERY

Immediately after the operation, you will not be allowed to eat or drink for about 8 hours. After that, your diet will consist of sugar-free liquids only for the next week, then you will gradually switch to pureed foods and finally to a normal diet about four weeks after the operation. You will probably stay in hospital for at least 2 to 4 days. Your doctor will recommend that you take certain vitamin and mineral supplements after the operation. You will need a vitamin B-12 injection once a month for life.
