When should a woman have a hair transplant in Turkey?

According to its progression, female alopecia is classified by scientists on theLudwig scale:

• Ludwig I: On the Ludwig I scale, this is referred to as benign hair loss. At this stage, hair loss is observed and will certainly progress to diffuse loss. Hair transplants are not recommended, as hair loss has not yet stabilised.

What are the contraindications to a hair transplant?

Different hair transplant techniques

FUT transplants

The FUT or Follicular Unit Transplantation is mainly used in cases ofpronounced alopecia (on the Ludwig scale II and III). This is a surgical procedure in which strips of scalp 2cm wide to 30cm long are removed from the back of the skull.

The living hair tissue on this strip is then implanted into the bald area. It leaves a scar on the scalp that will be covered by new hair growth.

FUE transplant

FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction involves extracting the grafts directly from the donor area. To do this, the donor scalp is shaved. These grafts are implanted directly into the bald area using an incision blade.

The blade will make micro-incisions into which the grafts will be inserted. As the FUE method is very modern, it has led to the introduction of another more revolutionary method, DHI or Direct Hair Implantation.

The FUE DHI method

With the DHI method, the grafts extracted by FUE from the donor area are inserted directly into the recipient area. It’s as if the surgeon were systematically moving the grafts from one area to another.

The DHI method is performed using a microblade pen. This blade can be made of steel or sapphire stone. In the latter case, the DHI Sapphire method is used.

This is currently the best method available. The sapphire stone, which is soft and healthy, contributes to better healing and reduces the risk of infection, especially if combined with a PRP injection.

Hair transplant procedure

The procedure takes place in several stages:

stage¹: Hair diagnosis

An initial consultation will enable a hair diagnosis to be made. An assessment of your general health will also be carried out via a blood test to determine whether a hair transplant is compatible with your state of health.

step²: On-site consultation

A second consultation in Istanbul for a more in-depth medical assessment: condition and texture of the hair, identification of the donor area, number of grafts required, implant technique to be used.

stage³: Day of the operation

On the day of the operation, you will be looked after by the plastic surgeon and his team. Thehair transplant operation may last between 6 and 8 hours, depending on the volume of grafts to be implanted and the technique used. An experienced surgeon can implant up to 4,000 grafts in a single session.

The operation is performed under local anaesthetic. It is completely painless. At intervals, the surgeon and patient can take a break to stretch and relax for a few minutes.

During the operation, the risk of bleeding or damage to the hair follicles cannot be ruled out. Everything depends on the surgeon’s expertise and ability to extract the follicles without damaging them.

After a hair transplant, the scalp may feel a little tingly. This sensation will dissipate after 24 hours, while the scalp heals.

step⁴: Follow-up and monitoring

3 days after the operation, the surgeon will carry out a check-up in the clinic. He will determine whether or not the graft has been successful, depending on the condition of the scalp.
