Hair loss or hair loss?

Hair loss is almost inevitable in women: at puberty, during pregnancy or after giving birth, during breastfeeding, but also at the menopause. In the case of deficiencies, undernourishment or an unbalanced diet, it occurs as a reminder to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Hair loss is another matter altogether. This is characterised by hair loss that lasts longer. It leads to a loss of density and thinning hair. In addition, there is a reduction in the hairline and a consequent balding at the temples or parting.

Causes of female hair loss

Hair loss in women can be hereditary, hormonal, mechanical or drug-induced.

  • Hereditary: This is known as androgenetic alopecia or female pattern baldness. It is most often the result of a sensitivity of the hair follicle which leads to disturbances in the hair growth cycle.
  • Hormonal: Throughout her life, a woman is subject to fluctuations in her female and male hormones. These are reflected in the health of her hair, which can be brittle, split, dry or greasy. This is known as androgenetic alopecia.
  • Immune: Alopecia resulting from an auto-immune disease is called alopecia. It is characterised by round holes on the skull. Very often, it can be resolved with appropriate medical treatment.
  • Mechanical: Mechanical hair loss is the result of poor hair treatment: hairstyles that are too tight or pulled back, tight plaits, excessive use of straightening irons, hair products that are too chemical, etc. This is known as traction alopecia.

Definitive solution to correct hair loss

Hair loss in women can result from a number of factors, but it can be irreversible. At present, there is no effective drug treatment for alopecia. However, there is one ultimate solution that women can resort to in order to put an end to it: a hair transplant in Turkey.

Hair transplantation or hair implantation involves removing hair follicles from an area that still has hair and then implanting them in the bald area.

When should a woman have a hair transplant in Turkey?

According to its progression, female alopecia is classified by scientists on theLudwig scale:

Echelle de Ludwig
  • Ludwig I: On the Ludwig I scale, this is referred to as benign hair loss. At this stage, hair loss is observed and will certainly progress to diffuse loss. Hair transplants are not recommended, as hair loss has not yet stabilised.
  • Ludwig II: At the Ludwig II stage, there is a noticeable loss of hair density. Alopecia sets in around the parting, which becomes thinner and thinner. At this point, a hair transplant is already an option.
  • Ludwig III: At this level, women’s hair transplants in Turkey are essential. The reduction in the hairline is very noticeable. The alopecia widens at the temples, leaving half the top of the skull almost empty.

Traction or scarring alopecia

In addition to diffuse and progressive alopecia, a woman’s hair transplant in Turkey can also be considered if you suffer from traction alopecia: a reduction in the hairline that tends towards the back and balding at the temples.

People who have lost their hair after trauma, a burn or an accident are also good candidates for a hair implant.

What are the contraindications to a hair transplant?

The only contraindication to a female hair transplant in Turkey is that it cannot be performed on a scalp that is in poor health. Deep inflammation of the scalp can cause a transplant to fail.

Hair transplants are also not recommended if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you have allergic reactions or coagulation disorders. If you suffer from respiratory insufficiency or cardiovascular disease, a hair transplant is not recommended.

Different hair transplant techniques

At present, there are two techniques for implanting hair in women. These are the FUT and FUE techniques.

FUT transplants

The FUT or Follicular Unit Transplantation is mainly used in cases ofpronounced alopecia (on the Ludwig scale II and III). This is a surgical procedure in which strips of scalp 2cm wide to 30cm long are removed from the back of the skull.

The living hair tissue on this strip is then implanted into the bald area. It leaves a scar on the scalp that will be covered by new hair growth.

FUE transplant

FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction involves extracting the grafts directly from the donor area. To do this, the donor scalp is shaved. These grafts are implanted directly into the bald area using an incision blade.

The blade will make micro-incisions into which the grafts will be inserted. As the FUE method is very modern, it has led to the introduction of another more revolutionary method, DHI or Direct Hair Implantation.

The FUE DHI method

With the DHI method, the grafts extracted by FUE from the donor area are inserted directly into the recipient area. It’s as if the surgeon were systematically moving the grafts from one area to another.

The DHI method is performed using a microblade pen. This blade can be made of steel or sapphire stone. In the latter case, the DHI Sapphire method is used.

This is currently the best method available. The sapphire stone, which is soft and healthy, contributes to better healing and reduces the risk of infection, especially if combined with a PRP injection.

Hair transplant procedure

The procedure takes place in several stages:

stage1: Hair diagnosis

An initial consultation will enable a hair diagnosis to be made. An assessment of your general health will also be carried out via a blood test to determine whether a hair transplant is compatible with your state of health.

step2: On-site consultation

A second consultation in Istanbul for a more in-depth medical assessment: condition and texture of the hair, identification of the donor area, number of grafts required, implant technique to be used.

stage3: Day of the operation

On the day of the operation, you will be looked after by the plastic surgeon and his team. Thehair transplant operation may last between 6 and 8 hours, depending on the volume of grafts to be implanted and the technique used. An experienced surgeon can implant up to 4,000 grafts in a single session.

Anesthésie du cuir chevelu
Anaesthesia of the scalp

The operation is performed under local anaesthetic. It is completely painless. At intervals, the surgeon and patient can take a break to stretch and relax for a few minutes.

During the operation, the risk of bleeding or damage to the hair follicles cannot be ruled out. Everything depends on the surgeon’s expertise and ability to extract the follicles without damaging them.

After a hair transplant, the scalp may feel a little tingly. This sensation will dissipate after 24 hours, while the scalp heals.

step4: Follow-up and monitoring

3 days after the operation, the surgeon will carry out a check-up in the clinic. He will determine whether or not the graft has been successful, depending on the condition of the scalp.

The practitioner will carry out remote checks to see whether the graft has been successful and whether the patient is following the post-operative instructions correctly. In general, there are no touch-ups for a hair transplant.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

After a successful hair transplant operation, hair implants are always renewed. In other words, they last as long as the patient lives. In fact, the transplanted hair never dies.

Turkey is renowned for its near-perfect mastery of hair implant surgery, for both men and women. With the right doctors, the success rate of your operation can be estimated at 98%.

Because hair implant surgery is performed under anaesthetic, there is no pain involved. Only a little pain may be experienced at the time of the injection, as well as when the anaesthetic wears off.

It is indeed possible to undergo a hair transplant operation without having to shave the entire area. Only certain hairs in the donor area need to be shaved, and this generally does not exceed 2,000 follicles.

Forehead reduction involves making an incision at the hairline, removing part of the frontal tissue to lower the hairline. It is therefore not a hair transplant, but a very different operation.

The hair transplant, although lasting between 6 and 8 hours, is a fairly simple and risk-free operation. You only need to spend 3 to 4 days in Turkey to have it done.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) treatment is a medical technique that uses the patient’s own blood plasma, enriched with platelets. It is used in dermatology, orthopaedics and aesthetic medicine, particularly in the hair sector to stimulate hair growth.
