What is vaginoplasty?

Vaginoplasty in Thailand in Bangkok (also known as posterior colporrhaphy) is a procedure designed to tighten the vagina. An alternative is non-invasive vaginal tightening by heating the tissues using radiofrequency waves (Femilift) or laser.

Patients with significant vaginal laxity may not benefit from these non-invasive treatments and may be better candidates for surgical tightening by vaginoplasty at a clinic in Bangkok.

After childbirth, women may complain of vaginal laxity, resulting from stretching of tissues and separation of muscles, sometimes to the point where a tampon falls out, and this lack of tone can contribute to sexual dysfunction.

What are the risks of vaginoplasty?

Any operation carries risks and potential complications. Fortunately, the vast majority of patients who undergo vaginoplasty have no problems with their operation and are extremely satisfied with their results. Risks are rare, but when they do occur, additional medication or even surgery may be required.

Recovering from vaginoplasty

After your vaginoplasty operation, you will need to regularly wash the area gently with soap and water. There will be slight swelling and bruising for 2 to 4 weeks. Some pain may be present for about a week after the vaginoplasty operation, but there is usually very little pain associated with this operation.

A prescription for painkillers and antibiotics is given to all patients before their vaginoplasty operation to relieve pain and prevent infection.

You must abstain from any vaginal insertion for 6 weeks, including intercourse and tampons. This will allow the incisions to heal completely and prevent any re-opening. You should also avoid lifting heavy objects and straining too hard when defecating, as this could impair your healing. The vaginoplasty sutures will dissolve and withdraw on their own.

You should be able to return to work one week after the operation and resume a programme of light exercise. Avoid heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for 4 to 6 weeks.
