How much does a rhinoplasty cost in Turkey?

The cost of a rhinoplasty in Turkey ranges from £1,500 to £3,100. The price depends on the technique used, the surgeon’s experience and the standard of the clinic in Istanbul. In the UK, the same procedure costs between £4,000 and £9,000. The final price is set after the surgeon examines your nose.

Nasal tip refinement£1,500 to £2,400£4,000 to £6,500
The price usually includes: surgeon’s fees, general anaesthesia, one night in hospital, hotel accommodation, transfers and post-operative follow-up.

What are the satisfaction and complication rates for rhinoplasty?

According to the ISAPS Global Survey 2024, nearly 1 million rhinoplasties were performed worldwide, of which 60.1% were on patients aged 18-34.[1] According to Neaman et al., Aesthetic Surgery Journal 2013, the complication rate is 7.9% and the revision rate is 9.8%.[2]

According to Rot et al., Journal of Clinical Medicine 2024, the ROE satisfaction score improves from 33.5 before surgery to 80.25 at twelve months, based on a meta-analysis of 17 studies.[3]

What is a rhinoplasty?

A rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes the bone and cartilage structure of the nose. It corrects a hump, a deviation, a drooping tip or overly wide nostrils. Performed under general anaesthesia, it can also improve nasal breathing.

Which rhinoplasty techniques are performed in Turkey?

Turkish clinics perform three approaches: open rhinoplasty, closed rhinoplasty and ultrasonic rhinoplasty. The choice does not depend on budget but on nasal anatomy and the extent of correction desired.

A bony-cartilaginous hump, a drooping tip and a deviated septum do not require the same surgical procedure. The surgeon decides after clinical examination and photo analysis.

Open or closed rhinoplasty: which to choose?

Open rhinoplasty involves an incision on the columella, between the nostrils, and gives the surgeon a direct view of the cartilage. Closed rhinoplasty places all incisions inside the nose and leaves no visible scar, but limits access to deep structures.

The open approach is used for complex corrections: revision after primary surgery, cartilage grafting, significant tip reshaping.

The closed approach is suitable for limited corrections, such as a moderate hump on a nose without major deviation. The columellar scar from the open approach becomes almost invisible within a few months. The balance of the profile also depends on the chin, which can be corrected with a genioplasty.

According to Neaman et al., Aesthetic Surgery Journal 2013, of 369 consecutive cosmetic rhinoplasties, 72.7% were performed using the open approach.[2]

What does ultrasonic (piezo) rhinoplasty offer?

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty replaces the hammer and chisel with a piezoelectric instrument that sculpts the bone without damaging the surrounding soft tissue. Patients experience less bruising and reduced swelling in the first days, with more precise bone reshaping.

This technique explains part of the price difference. Procedures using the piezotome cost from £1,800 to £3,900 in Turkey, compared with £1,500 to £3,100 for a standard rhinoplasty.

It is not indicated in all cases. A nose without a marked bony hump will not benefit, and the cartilage work remains the same.

Preservation rhinoplasty maintains the natural bone structure rather than removing and rebuilding it. It suits specific morphologies and requires specific surgeon experience.

Why are Turkish clinics cheaper than in the UK?

The price difference comes from local operating costs, not from cutting corners on surgery. Staff salaries, social charges, property costs and operating theatre fees are lower in Turkey. Equipment and hygiene standards can be verified through the clinic’s accreditation.

Volume also plays a role. A surgeon who performs many rhinoplasties spreads fixed costs over a larger number of procedures. This is one of the economic drivers of medical tourism in Turkey.

Istanbul stretches across both shores of the Bosphorus, between Europe and Asia.

You have two safeguards to check that a low price does not hide a compromise: the clinic’s JCI accreditation, and the surgeon’s membership of ISAPS or certification by EBOPRAS. These certifications can be verified online using the practitioner’s name.

Reference hospitals in Istanbul

Three Istanbul hospitals regularly welcome UK patients for rhinoplasty. Their accreditations and their surgeons’ memberships of learned societies can be checked before any commitment.

  1. Hisar Intercontinental Hospital (JCI: 60000603): private multidisciplinary hospital.
  2. Acıbadem Group (JCI: 60007688): private multidisciplinary hospital group.
  3. Memorial Hospital (JCI: 60008334): general hospital with a plastic and reconstructive surgery department.

Am I a good candidate for a rhinoplasty in Turkey?

A good candidate for rhinoplasty is in good general health, has finished growing and has an identifiable aesthetic or breathing concern. They should have a precise and realistic expectation: to correct a profile, not to get someone else’s nose.

The most common reasons for consultation are a hump on the bridge, a drooping or wide tip, deviation after trauma, and nasal obstruction due to a deviated septum. Some morphologies require an ethnic rhinoplasty, which preserves facial characteristics.

Ethnic rhinoplasty aims to preserve facial features.

Skin thickness affects the result. Thin skin reveals the slightest bony irregularity, while thick skin hides fine tip corrections. The surgeon evaluates this parameter during consultation, not from photos.

A candidate who consults under pressure from a partner or whose dissatisfaction moves from one facial area to another may benefit from psychological support before any surgery.

What are the contraindications for rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is not recommended in cases of blood clotting disorders, unstable autoimmune disease, active ENT infection and poorly controlled diabetes. Active smoking is a relative contraindication, as nicotine compromises nasal tissue healing.

The surgeon may require you to stop smoking before surgery and during healing, according to a schedule they set.

Other situations require postponement or refusal:

  • Current pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Anticoagulant or antiplatelet treatment that cannot be stopped
  • Cardiac or pulmonary disease incompatible with general anaesthesia
  • Recent treatment with isotretinoin (acne), which impairs healing
  • Body dysmorphic disorder or unrealistic expectations despite explanation

The basal view shows nostril and columella symmetry.

The pre-operative assessment carried out before departure, including blood tests and anaesthesia consultation, helps rule out these situations. A serious clinic will cancel the procedure rather than proceed regardless.

At what age can you have a rhinoplasty?

A cosmetic rhinoplasty is performed after facial growth is complete, i.e. from around 16 years according to the SOFCPRE information sheet[4]. Operating earlier risks secondary deformity as the nose continues to develop. There is no upper age limit.

Under 18, the age of majority in Turkey as in the UK, the procedure requires the agreement of a legal guardian.

According to the ISAPS Global Survey 2024, 60.1% of worldwide rhinoplasties involve patients aged 18-34.[1] With age, loss of skin elasticity reduces skin retraction and limits tip corrections.

What does a rhinoplasty trip to Turkey involve day by day?

A rhinoplasty trip to Turkey usually lasts a week, enough time to remove the splint. It covers the pre-operative consultation, the surgery, one night in hospital, then the rest days needed before splint removal.

What the package includes varies by clinic: transfers, hotel and interpreter are often included. During my rhinoplasty in Istanbul in 2021, airport transfer, hotel and an on-site translator were included in my package; the flight ticket was at my own expense.

Here is a typical schedule for a stay in Istanbul:

  • Day 1: arrival, private transfer to hotel, rest.
  • Day 2: consultation with the surgeon, morphological analysis and photos, blood tests, anaesthesia consultation.
  • Day 3: surgery under general anaesthesia, lasting from 45 minutes to 2 hours for a rhinoplasty alone[4]. One night of monitoring in the clinic.
  • Day 4: return to hotel. Swelling and bruising at their peak. Strict rest, head elevated.
  • Days 5 and 6: rest, cold compresses, limited outings.
  • Day 7: splint removal at the clinic and follow-up consultation.

The splint is removed between the fifth and eighth day[4]. This is what determines the length of stay, not the duration of surgery.

Allow a 24-hour margin before your return flight. This helps avoid leaving the same day as splint removal, in case of bleeding or the need for an extra check.

When can you fly after a rhinoplasty?

The return flight should be scheduled after splint removal and with the surgeon’s approval. Advice varies: a British university hospital advises avoiding flying for two weeks after a septorhinoplasty[5]. Cabin pressure increases swelling and can cause bleeding in the first days.

Dry cabin air dries the freshly operated mucous membranes. A saline spray and good hydration help limit discomfort during the flight.

Do not blow your nose during the flight or in the days after: the same hospital recommends waiting about a week[5]. The action can displace structures that are healing.

A flight from Istanbul to London takes 4 hours.

How does post-operative follow-up work from the UK?

Follow-up is done remotely by messaging with the clinic team, based on photos sent at regular intervals. Check-ups are concentrated in the first month, then spaced out until the one-year review. After my return, the clinic coordinator remained reachable on WhatsApp and called me every month.

The recovery timeline follows a known progression:

  • Week 1: marked swelling and bruising, nasal breathing difficult.
  • Weeks 2 to 3: bruising resolved, return to work possible for a sedentary job.
  • Week 6: return to non-contact sport[5].
  • Months 3 to 6: most of the swelling has gone, the result becomes visible.
  • Month 12: final result, especially on the nasal tip.

You can consult an ENT specialist or surgeon in the UK at any time. The operation report given on discharge allows any practitioner to take over your care.

Ask for this document before departure if it is not provided. It applies to any procedure, like other cosmetic surgery in Turkey.

What if the rhinoplasty result is unsatisfactory?

A rhinoplasty should not be judged before twelve months. Residual swelling of the tip distorts the result throughout the first year. After that, an unsatisfactory correction may require a revision rhinoplasty, priced between £2,300 and £4,200 in Turkey.

According to Neaman et al., Aesthetic Surgery Journal 2013, of 369 cosmetic rhinoplasties, 15.4% of patients reported dissatisfaction and 9.8% underwent revision.[2]

These figures come from a single American practice, on patients operated between 1998 and 2008, not from Turkish clinics. No study publishes revision rates specific to Turkish clinics.

A revision is judged, like a primary surgery, once swelling has resolved.

First send dated photos to the operating surgeon. A minor asymmetry or residual hump can sometimes be corrected with hyaluronic acid injections, without surgical revision, with a risk of skin necrosis described in the literature[6].

Check three points in writing before booking:

  • What the revision guarantee covers: surgeon’s fees only, or operating theatre and anaesthesia included.
  • The period during which it applies.
  • What remains at your expense: flights and accommodation are rarely covered.

A revision should only be considered once the final result is achieved, between six months and one year according to SOFCPRE[4]. This timeframe applies in the UK as well as Turkey.

In case of dispute, recourse falls under Turkish law and the establishment where the procedure was performed. Choosing a JCI-accredited clinic and a surgeon who is a member of ISAPS or certified by EBOPRAS protects you in advance.

Is rhinoplasty covered by the NHS or private insurance?

A purely cosmetic rhinoplasty is not covered by the NHS or private insurance. Only the functional part may be covered: septoplasty for deviated septum, correction after fracture, documented nasal obstruction. This coverage applies to procedures performed in the UK or, under certain conditions, abroad.

The request goes through prior approval from the relevant body, based on an ENT examination establishing the breathing impairment. This is known as septorhinoplasty, which combines the functional and aesthetic procedures.

The nasal tip is the slowest area to stabilise.

An operation performed in Turkey falls outside this framework. Outside the UK, a planned procedure is only covered exceptionally, after approval from the relevant authority, for innovative treatments unavailable in the UK.

Plan for two costs. Travel insurance usually excludes complications from a planned medical procedure. A follow-up consultation in the UK also adds to the budget.

The final price depends on the technique chosen and the anatomy of the nose, which the surgeon assesses from photos then in consultation.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions

Is rhinoplasty painful?

Rhinoplasty is not very painful: SOFCPRE describes rarely painful post-operative course[4]. The main discomfort comes from the blocked nose due to packing and the pressure under the splint, not from sharp pain. Simple painkillers are usually enough.

The length of time off depends on the job and the surgeon’s advice. SOFCPRE places the return to normal life between 10 and 20 days[4]. According to NHS guidance, septal surgery may require about 1 to 2 weeks off work[8].

The final result can be assessed between six months and a year, with a good indication from the second or third month[4]. As soon as the splint is removed, the new shape is visible. The nasal tip is the slowest area to settle.

Glasses should be avoided for several weeks: their pressure on the nasal bridge can mark the healing bone. Contact lenses are a temporary solution. The surgeon sets the timeframe at the follow-up, after which a light frame can be reintroduced.

Walking resumes quickly, non-contact sport around the sixth week according to a British hospital[5]. Contact sports and anything exposing the face to impact should wait for the first three months[4]. Intense effort can cause bleeding.

Sun exposure should be limited for the first months: UV rays can permanently darken residual bruising and the columellar scar from an open approach. High-factor protection is essential for initial outings. Sauna and steam room should wait until swelling has resolved.

Yes, rhinoplasty is commonly combined with septoplasty, genioplasty or blepharoplasty under the same anaesthetic. Combining procedures avoids a second trip. The surgeon validates feasibility based on total theatre time and your health.

No official ranking designates a best country. The choice depends on clinic accreditation, surgeon qualification and price: £1,500 to £3,100 in Turkey. The site also compares rhinoplasty in Tunisia and Spain.
